Asmara
Today we are in Asmara, the capital of Eritrea. It took us 4.5 hours to get here in an old bus full of soldiers going on vacation, and was not easy. However, the views are great on the way, and Asmara itself is cool and interesting, with lots of Italian architecture and an European feel to it. The internet is very slow, so we can’t use Skype or upload pictures, unfortunately.
The trip is an opportunity to recover from the heat, which in Massawa is oppressive, all we do during the day, from 10 till 5 is to sit in the shade and pour water over ourselves with the sprinkler we use as a shower. We got to Massawa on Friday, and tomorrow we will carry on south, stopping at several overnight anchorages before going into Asab. There may be internet there, but since Massawa has no connection at all, we aren;t betting on it!
Oren has fixed the engine again ( we had a fuel blockage again, probably because of dirty Egyptian fuel) and I have sewn the sun cover back on the sail. The wind generator is back in service again too, and we have filled up water, so we are ready to go.
